The sack suit is impossible to leave out of any account of American trad. As the name says, its silhouette holds structure back like a sack, and carries a free, faintly unhurried air quite unlike the built-up lines of conventional dress clothing.

The sack suit began with a cutting method called the sack cut, in 19th-century France. Reducing the back panel from the 4 pieces then usual to 2 gave a roomy silhouette that covered the body naturally rather than wrapping it in shape. That rational thinking crossed to America, met the age of mass production and ready-to-wear, and flowered as the American way of dressing.

"D.C.Sack Suits" pays that history its respect and updates it to fit life in a city now. What we were after is not costume but dress clothing that belongs in daily life, the kind you actually want to put on.

Classical details are there: a natural shoulder, a center vent, a V-zone with shape to it. The balance of the whole, though, stays relaxed. Dropping the front darts and the waist suppression reproduces the straight form of a traditional sack suit while dressing it in a contemporary refinement.

The trousers are a wide straight. An easy line through the hips falling straight down gives the unforced balance of a grown-up.

A classic antique gold cinch back sits at the rear, adding a retro note without display.

Buffalo horn buttons stand out against a light cloth and work as the accent of the outfit.

The cloths are 2, both carefully woven in Japan: a seersucker and a cotton poplin. The seersucker has a rippling surface and good breathability, and promises comfort in a suit through high summer.

The cotton poplin has a smooth touch and a measured firmness, which gives it a refined surface and drape. Each comes in 2 colors, navy and white. Choose the cloth and the color for the occasion, and the style is your own.

This is also a piece whose impression changes a great deal with the size you choose. Your true size gives a refined, well-proportioned trad look. Going up one size gives an unforced, easier styling.
Thrown over a shirt or a T-shirt, it holds intelligence and ease together, in the balance only D.C.WHITE draws.

A sack suit inspired by the age of mass production, and given character through care over its details.
Rebuilt through the D.C.WHITE reading, it answers both dressing up without formality and the real freedom of a grown-up.
