"IVY B.D." was made to reach the quality of a dress shirt from one of the old American haberdashers.
On the dress shirt side: the side seams, finished at around 6 mm on a casual shirt, are 4 mm here, and the stitch density is 21 per 3 cm where 18 per 3 cm is usual. The refinement comes through in the stitchwork.
The buttons are attached with a wrapped shank, where the thread joining button to shirt is bound again with thread for strength. Nothing is let go, including what is hard to see.
A split yoke at the back keeps the cloth from lifting away from the shoulders, another dress shirt point of view.
Making it this way took close work with a Japanese dress shirt factory.
The silhouette, though, is set apart from the older dress shirt, with a little more room through the armhole and the chest.
That makes it work as a dress shirt under a jacket and as a casual shirt worn out on its own, across a wider range of occasions.
