"Maine", the D.C.WHITE field jacket drawn from the wide country of the American state of Maine.

This model, which fuses the practicality of a field jacket with the tailoring view of a clothing maker, is rebuilt here in a blend of washi paper yarn and linen.

The washi used here is a traditional material that has been in use in Japan for over 1000 years.

It runs deep in daily life and culture, in shoji and fusuma, in calligraphy and in craft, and has been handed down through all of it.

The washi in this cloth is made from fibres derived from softwood pulp.

Its long, interlocking fibres make it thin and light while giving it strength enough for clothing.

The dry touch of washi, its breathability and its ability to take up and release moisture are all kept, with a material chosen to feel dependable in everyday wear.

Crossing it with linen adds the firmness only a natural fibre gives, so the cloth reads a little rough and still carries a restrained sheen and quality.

Washi may suggest something soft, but not here. What you feel is a tough, substantial texture.

The basic details of a field jacket are kept: 4 front pockets, action pleats, elbow patches, a waist belt.

The front placket and the silhouette, on the other hand, take a tailoring approach and build a shaped front, which keeps the whole from tipping too far toward the blunt.

The waist belt can be tied, left hanging, or tucked into a pocket, as the wearer prefers.

For a short outing at the weekend or as a layer on a trip, and equally over a jacket or a blazer.

A piece where a material out of Japanese daily culture and the structural beauty of American field wear cross naturally.
