Mountain Parka

A mountain parka with "MASTER SHIELD" as its shell, a high-density cloth with a record of use by the Japan Self-Defense Forces and the Maritime Self-Defense Force.

If Britain has Ventile and America has West Point twill, this is the cloth that passed Japanese military specification.

100% cotton yarn is driven in to the limit, and when rain hits, the fibers swell and the weave closes.

That mechanism belongs to a densely woven cloth that keeps water out without relying on synthetics.

Because it is cotton, the surface stays settled, and the character deepens the more it is worn.

The front is a two-way double zip.

Flap and zip at the chest; at the hips, a double-layered pocket opening both at the top and at the side.

The back carries an upper and a lower compartment.

The lower one zips from either side, so a hand goes in from left or right.

9 places to stow things in all.

Letting the garment carry the load: gear thinking, applied to clothing.

Drawcord channels are built into the hood and the waist, with cords of differing diameter for the two.

For the hood stoppers and pulls we chose vegetable-tanned leather that ages, rather than resin parts.

The snap buttons were made to order by YKK.

The caps are stamped with the D.C.WHITE logo, and the same face runs from the collar through the front, the pockets and the cuffs.

Single-layer construction, without lining or interlining.

In a garment with no lining, the finishing of every seam allowance is there to be seen.

All of it is bound, with about 8 m of piping tape per 1 garment.

The seams run 14 stitches to 3 cm.

That density holds fine appearance and durability together.

Sewing is done at a factory in Dalian certified by the Japan Textile Products Quality and Technology Center (QTEC).

Only 2 factories in China hold that certification.
