Philadelphia

A jacket named for Philadelphia, the city that was the stage for the Declaration of Independence and the framing of the Constitution, and that goes on developing today in education and technology.

That coexistence of tradition and invention is projected onto the jacket, fusing classic sewing technique with new pattern making.

The cloths are 2 worsteds, a houndstooth and a house check, from the Worsted Jacket 1 series of "Abraham Moon", the celebrated English mill with nearly 200 years of history.

Worsted has a smooth surface, but it also shows creasing and swelling at seams more readily.

With woollens the cloth itself has texture, so it hides; with worsted, a beautiful make is only possible through high skill.

So the skilled craftsmen D.C.WHITE has long trusted worked through the choice of interlinings and secondary materials and the intermediate pressing stages to reach a clean finish.

Technical precision alone was not the end of it. Visual beauty and presence were pursued as well, and classic houndstooth and house check with the sheen only worsted gives make the quality legible at a glance.

The drape particular to worsted creates a natural fall in wear, and the silhouette is drawn to match: not oversized, but settling straight onto the body, with a little room following its contours for a shaped fit.

Light enough in wear to serve as a mid layer as well.

Worth noting too is the roll returning naturally from a wide lapel. Sewing of the kind only a high-end tailored factory in Japan does gives the chest a shaped line that sits beautifully.

The shoulder takes proper padding and sleeve head wadding while staying natural in impression, with a curve running from the shoulder slope into the body and a sleeve set that does not interfere with a forward shoulder: details that improve the way it wears.

A forward-pitched sleeve with room through the upper arm, a straight line running from the second button to the hem: classic elements, rebuilt through our own reading.

"Philadelphia" fuses traditional sewing technique with contemporary pattern design and draws the most out of the character of the cloth.
