The KHAKI began with two basic questions: what is a chino, and what color is khaki.

- from D.C.WHITE Autumn&Winter '23

It starts from "The KHAKI", the chino suit shown for spring and summer 2023, keeping the design thinking intact while the specification was reviewed, updated and rebuilt.

"Khaki" is a word used loosely, but it comes from the color to which uniforms were dyed in 19th-century British India so that they would disappear into the dust.

For The KHAKI, vintage chinos and archive material were used to re-examine how the color historically called khaki came about, and to bring it down to a tone that works as modern dress.

The previous model leaned on double stitching throughout for a workwear expression; this update presses the seams open instead, easing the work character back.

It is sewn at a clothing factory, designed and processed on the same thinking as a dress suit.

That is a deliberate choice: to let chino cloth stand as a tailored item rather than as an extension of workwear.

The trousers are beltless, with side adjusters.

About 5 cm on each side, 10 cm in all, absorbing changes in build.

Cloth out of the American traditional canon, made up with the techniques of dress tailoring.

Neither formal nor fully casual, "The KHAKI" is offered as one answer to the suit chosen by preference rather than obligation.
