What stood out in the photographs of Ivy League campus style from the 1960s was not denim but cotton trousers of a middling, unemphatic silhouette.

Bought for them by their parents, in all likelihood, those trousers pulled the whole together with the refinement of their line and color, even inside the chaotic dressing of a student.

"Campus Pique" is a cotton trouser drawn from that unconscious refinement.

On a base of piqué, an American basic, the air those students wore so unselfconsciously is rebuilt in a present-day balance.

The silhouette is what defines it.

Measured room through the hip and thigh, tapering slightly toward the hem.

It draws a straight line that falls like a pair of slacks, well-proportioned enough to sit naturally with a jacket.

The cloth is a piqué that keeps some firmness.

That firmness brings out the fall of the silhouette and draws its outline clearly.

Garment dyeing then gives the color depth.

The 3 colors, off-white, sax and navy, bring natural fading and expression to a cotton trouser that could easily read flat, and settle further into the body with each wearing.

New, and yet with the worn-in ease of something that had been in the wardrobe all along.

From sneakers to dress shoes, they do not choose their footwear, and move freely between neat and rough.
