*Of the 2 models in the Hacking Jacket series, this one has the butterfly lining.

A hacking jacket is a tweed jacket carrying the sport details that developed alongside the history of British riding.

This one steps away from the stiff, heavy, square silhouette a tweed jacket so often had, and builds a soft, rounded line that settles onto the body.

Darts run from the shoulder toward the shoulder blade and inside the elbow, giving the jacket more freedom of movement than the silhouette suggests from a distance.

The front carries slanted pockets, with a change pocket on the right.

The roll of the lapel that draws out a gentle line, a natural shoulder, a collar built to sit close against the neck in the way good tailoring hints at itself, a relaxed waist that is never tight, and so on.

Because the design source is a sport jacket, proper details that bring out that mobility are placed throughout.

The center vent at the back is a little longer than on an ordinary jacket.

It follows the sporting details of the vintage hacking jackets we sampled from; the length was there to help when the legs opened wide in the saddle.

The cloth had to be first class as well.

Weighing 2 points, lightness so it never tires you over a long day, and the color and pattern that decide a jacket's character, we chose the tweed of Abraham Moon of England, with over 180 years of history behind it.

That lightness, together with the pattern making along the shoulder described above, gives it the wearing feel of a cardigan.
