Trousers laying a hard melton drawn from American outdoor culture over a basic silhouette.

Made as felt in the Velsen region of the Netherlands in the 17th century, melton was taken up by the British army for cold-weather clothing in the 19th, and by the 20th it had spread widely in America as a standard cloth for outdoor wear, in hunting coats and mackinaw jackets.

D.C.WHITE keeps that practical, rugged history in view and rebuilds it out of respect for European tailoring.
Hard melton was chosen for trousers as a cloth that holds field durability and a refined presence at once.
American toughness as the base, read again through a European eye.

Substantial in the hand and yet soft to the touch, the cloth uses its own weight to draw a fine fall from the hips to the hem.
That brings out the timeless beauty of a basic silhouette.
The steadiness of a thick cloth and the movement of a measured drape sit together, and give the standing figure an unspoken weight.
Melton also holds its shape over years of wear, and resists bagging at the knee.

The more it is worn, the more air the fibres take in and the more the surface raises, so softness and warmth build up.
The change is never dramatic. It deepens over time, the way a thing settles into the hand.
That process of aging is the greatest thing this cloth has to offer.

The details take classic side adjusters, so without a belt the waist can be moved about 7 cm (3.5 cm × 2).
The hips read cleanly, and the fit can be trimmed to your build or your outfit.

The side seams are closed flat for a dressier impression.

They ship unhemmed, and we will hem them for a fee on request.
