Heritage Rugger Border

A rugby shirt with a two-colour stripe, a broad band layered with a fine line across the chest, knitted into a dense jersey.

White: navy and red on an ecru ground.

Black: grey and ecru on a black ground.

Both stay with classic colourways and stripe spacing.

The stripes are not printed. The yarn is switched as the fabric is knitted.

The body stripe runs unbroken into the sleeves.

Rugby shirt stripes began as club colours, a way to tell teams apart.

Here that pattern is gathered into a single band around the chest, with the lower body left plain.

Under a jacket, just enough stripe shows in the V of the lapels.

On the left chest, a monogram built from the 3 initial letters of D.C.WHITE.

A motif in the spirit of old school and club badges, embroidered with a raised, full texture in Kiryu (Gunma), one of Japan's leading embroidery centres.

The fabric is our own dense jersey.

Knitted tightly from 10-count two-ply yarn, it pairs the softness of a knit with more weight than a sweatshirt.

Tough enough to wash and wear as it is, every day.

The collar is cut from a separate cotton twill, with a collar stand.

An English-style collar, after the British habit of putting on a tie and blazer over the rugby shirt after a match.

The placket buttons are silicone.

A detail carried over from the rugby pitch: even if one breaks in hard contact, it is unlikely to cut the skin.

The base of the V is reinforced with an X bar tack.

Dropped shoulders and room through the chest and armholes, with ribbed cuffs to keep the wrists neat.

Worn alone, the stripe takes the lead. Under a jacket, it adds a touch of colour at the chest.

About sizing

Body length is the same for M and L.

Only chest width and shoulder width differ.

• M: A chest width with some room that still looks clean.
• L: Chest and shoulders a size wider, for an easy, relaxed fit.
