"Wesley", a suit in cotton moleskin, finished with a garment wash.

Moleskin is a densely woven cotton with a brushed, raised surface.

A soft hand reminiscent of suede, a muted sheen, and enough body to keep the wind out.

A cloth long used for French work jackets and English country clothing. Rugged, yet well-proportioned.

Less formal than a wool suit, less casual than a cotton setup.

We chose moleskin to sit squarely between the two.

After sewing, each piece is washed and tumble-dried. The cloth tightens slightly and loses its new stiffness, leaving a soft, lived-in hand.

The finishing press is applied only to the collar and lapels.

The body and sleeves are only steamed, so the character of the wash remains.

On the jacket, the shoulders and armholes are sewn with open seams, with no stitching visible on the face.

The collar and front edges, by contrast, carry topstitching that sharpens the outline.

A welt pocket at the chest, flap pockets at the hips.

Mitered cuffs with 3 buttons.

A center vent at the back.

Fully lined, so it slips on easily despite the brushed cloth.

The trousers have no belt loops. The waist is set with side adjusters.

A classic detail, carried over.

A 50mm tape runs around the inside of the waistband to hold its shape.

No center crease, and a plain hem.

The soft roundness of the brushed cloth falls straight along the leg.

Sewn by a tailored-clothing specialist factory in Aomori.

With the garment wash in mind, seam allowances and stitching are specified part by part.

A suit for everyday autumn and winter, as at home with a tie as it is when the jacket is worn on its own.
