The name comes from the winch, the hoisting machine that hauls heavy loads in ports and factories.

In the industrial era it was the machine that reeled in steel cable, rope and vast containers no crew could shift by hand, drawing them steadily toward it on a turning drum.

It worked out of sight, holding up the labor of the port towns.

This shirt translates that toughness, and that trust in a tool, into a single garment.

Robust 3-needle stitching, a pocket layout with real dimension, a placket built to resist tearing.

Workwear components run throughout, and the result is a garment that works like a "tool" fitted to the body of the person wearing it.

A chambray in a deep, handsome blue then wraps that rugged character in something softer.

The cool, dry hand that only chambray gives.

Sleeves, sides and back yoke carry generous runs of sturdy 3-needle stitching, the orthodox construction of a work shirt, with military detailing slipped in throughout.

The pockets are as well appointed as a utility vest.

Both sides of the chest take patch pockets with flaps and gussets, an accent at the front.

A large flap pocket added to the left sleeve swallows a smartphone whole, so the shirt holds the tools of modern life as well.

A shirt as tool, becoming the wearer's hand and pouch.

The seamed placket is sampled from vintage work shirts too.

The cloth is split down the center and the join is where the buttonholes are cut.

It makes a structure that resists tearing, while the puckering gives the placket thickness and relief, raising the presence of the whole shirt a step.

Laborious steps, layered without stinting.

Against detailing that forceful, the buttons are cat's-eye shell, close to white mother-of-pearl.

They catch the light with a soft luster, a grown-up note dropped into the rough beauty of the construction.

The silhouette runs slightly large. It sits very well with shorts.

Worn open over a white T-shirt it reads light; buttoned to the collar it reads like work.

The function and durability of workwear form the skeleton, dressed in the restrained, refined air that belongs to D.C.WHITE.

The freshness of chambray and a slightly relaxed silhouette keep it cool even under high-summer sun. A uniform for the season.
